From France to Melbourne

[From 01/06/13 to 23/06/13]
Hello everybody! I'm happy to tell you that I'm back from Australia !
I wrote this little post to tell you about my experience. Hope you will enjoy it! xx

I stayed in Melbourne for around 3 weeks. Melbourne is the capital of Victoria, and it is also the second biggest city in Australia. There is a larg diversity there : around 140 nationalities ! But I wasn't so lost because there were many Europeans. People say that Melbourne is the most European city.
To begin with, I met many Australians who told and learned me the history of Australia in order to understand a bit more where I was. They explained me what the Aboriginal culture was. This culture is the OLDEST of the world! Exciting! Isn't it?!
You know how I'm fond of music, so I asked many questions to my Australian friends about it. They told me that in the North of Australia, people use the “Didjeridoo” to accompagny singing.
In fact it is a branch of a tree! But the sound (?) produced is attractive.
The Aboriginal culture is everywhere: in architecture, music, art, cinema, museums...
So as you might realise, you can't stay in Australia without understanding its history.

During my trip, first I went to Philip Island and it was awesome because there were many penguins and koalas.
Moreover we surfed! There were many spectacular waves, so that was an amazing experience.

After this, we spent 3 days at the Rainbow Serpent Festival. This is a festival where you can hear music  all day and you can also do many activities.
It was an entertaining experience because I met many friendly people. Well, I think that it is one of the best things I've ever done in Australia ! The only problem is that it's a little expensive. But it is worth it !

After relaxing, we did a lot of shopping ( maybe too much! ) on Chapel Street.
I bought many clothes because the brands in this street are cheap and it's good quality.

The day after shopping, we spent the afternoon at  Federation Square.
It's a place where there are many coffeeshops, restaurants and museums. It is fun (?) when you want to hang around with friends at night.

Then, I went to the Great Ocean Road. To me, it's the best place around Melbourne, a paradise! What is better than seeing the waves strucking the rocks?! It is so marvelous you know. If you need to relax, you have to go there ! I spent a lovely time here.

I finally decided to educate myself by going to the Melbourne Museum. This museum dedicates one part to recount the History of Melbourne with films and many other things.
The other part is dedicated to showcase insects, dinosaur skeletons and stuffed animals...
Awesome!

I met someone who told me to go to the Queen Victoria Market. Well, it is more than just Melbourne's shopping mecca. This market is a historic and famous landmark, tourist attraction and an institution for all Melbournians. More than fresh seafood and fresh fruits and vegetables, it takes a fresh approach. Find clothing, baggage, toys, jewellery, new-age products and souvenirs at sinful prices.

Hope you enjoyed it and that you'll go to Austalia too !

Bye for now, love Julie x
